Praying the Mass
From September onwards, the new English translation of the Mass in the Roman Missal will gradually be introduced into England and Wales until, by the end of the year, we shall be using it in its completion. We shall find the new translation much richer than that dating from about forty years ago, and a much more accurate version of what the original Latin actually says, with the scriptural allusions of the prayers being much more obvious.
We need to prepare for the new translation by deepening our basic understanding of the Mass: its different parts, and how week by week we celebrate them and enter into them. From now onwards, we shall have the opportunity of benefiting from ‘Praying the Mass – a Programme to assist the Archdiocese of Westminster prepare for and use the new English language edition of the Roman Missal.’ From February – June, one Sunday each month a special leaflet will be available to take away, highlighting one part of the Mass and how we can best take part in it. On this Sunday, the priest’s homily will also be devoted to this theme.
If you miss a leaflet they can be downloaded along with additional resources from the diocese website.
